PTA Great Idea Bank

A resource for PTA and parent involvement project ideas

Muffins for Moms/Donuts for Dads (an excerpt from PTA's Great Idea Bank)

We provided a breakfast and encouraged moms to come eat with their kids. When the kids went to class we held a "strong mothers" program. A month later we held a "Donuts with Dad" breakfast and a "strong fathers" program. We discussed ways for parents to help their kids at home with school work. We focused on practical ideas and educational games moms and dads could use to become more involved in their child’s success.

We held the mom's breakfast first and encouraged them to get the dads more involved. Our goal was to encourage new families to be active in the school and increase our dad participation.

Benefit: Parents benefited because they were given tools to help their kids be succesful and the kids had fun. We did see an increase in our Dad participation.

Our PTA hosted both" Muffins for Moms" and "Donuts for Dads" this year. It had not been hosted since efore I started at the school (DS was in 3rd grade) It was a fantastic success. The majority of the attendees were not current PTA members. We received a lot of positive feedback. We're hoping this translate into more parents getting involved in PTA next year.
