PTA Great Idea Bank

A resource for PTA and parent involvement project ideas

What better way to help with the "United We Serve Initiative" than to bring our units together to share successes, education, information, and resources relating to Website Technology. Our websites provide our members with a 24 hour method of retrieving information. This information may help kickstart units and allow them to begin sharing information and content to their units and members.

As a new member of the Arkansas State PTA Board (less than 9 months) I could truly benefit from this kind of centralized information. I intend to share what has helped me and would encourage others to do the same so that all may benefit from the information.

For site hosting I highly recommend: 1&1 Website Hosting

For extremely fast and affordable site hosting, I have chosen to use 1&1. They have amazing package plans for as low as $3.99 a month and have great 24 hour customer service and support! Click HERE to check out their hosting plans.

Some of the key features of this hosting company are as follows:
  • Very Low Monthly Fees (as low as $3.99/mo)
  • Daily Site Backups
  • Great 24/7 Service and Support
  • Private MySQL server networks for increased database security
  • Unlimited Site Bandwidth
  • Up to 300GB of Web Space
  • Email forwarders, mailing lists, auto-responders, etc
  • Cheap Domain name purchases and renewals (under $7.00)
  • much much more

I used 1&1 for a while, it was ok. DreamHosts is free for non-profits and in my opinion, is a better fit for someone like me.

However, the point is that there are tons of resources out there. Instead of everyone signing off on their favorites, why not a tech-centric committee or forum within the National PTA itself?

Put up a new group, just to get something started:

Website Building Tutorials and Resources
Here is an excellent site for CSS, MySQL, PHP, and HTML tutorials and code examples. This site is one of the few that I believe provides very easy to understand examples without a bunch of unnecessary or bloated code to go along with each example. Forgive the silly site name, it really is a great place for beginners...
