That is awesome, Heather! We're in the early stages of considering a school garden together with the local 4-H group. Your message is inspiring!

We started growing a learning garden at our school. It is roughly 6,000 square feet and I have won 2 grants for it and another teacher has won one grant. Altogether we have raised $6,000! It's amazing what you can accomplish and grow! There are so many grants out there to apply too. It's worth the effort to win the money - especially when your school is title 1 and doesn't have any funding to go towards a learning garden.

Texas PTA has launched its 2009-10 Environmental Awareness Program. The theme is "100 Years from Now..." (to reflect Texas PTA's 100th anniversary). The program exposes families to the benefits of nature education, open green-space and conservation, since a clean, sustainable environment has a tremendous impact on student success. Read more about the Environmental Awareness program on the Texas PTA site.
