This year our school and our county is trying to increase male involvement in PTA by having "Supermen of PTA".  At my local unit, we are trying to create Father/Son days and Father/Daughter days.

@ Scott Huse- What kind of programs do you launch?  We are in need of more male presence and participation.

We have a committee for men.  The dad that was chairing the committee was elected to serve as a local rep. and didn't do anything.  I sent an email asking dads to come and read to their child's class.  This worked and we one of the dads that responded spoke at our PTA general membership meeting encouraging dads.  He is now chairing that committee.  I also spoke with other dads one that is Spanish speaking and he is co-chairing the committee this year and next year.  My advice is to start small.  Get your dads involved at the beginning of the year, speak to them at every event.  What worked for my PTA is dividing up the volunteer opportunities that will appeal to dads.

I launch programs in schools that not only engage men, but the full family. It is important for any parent/family member to feel they have a place to start in schools. Everyone has a hot button. Safe school environments, encouraging students and ONLY 1 day a year commitment to start are three good ones.

I just started issuing Most Involved Male Awards in our district! Hopefully, this will generate some excitement and let the men know that we appreciate and support their efforts, as they support PTA/PTSA and Our children!
