I was in a similar situation. What we are doing this year is posted under "New as a President for PTSA for a High School." We have already doubled membership from last year. When we ask people to do things they are more likely to get involved than when I issue general requests by e-mail or in a meeting. For example, if we call people who checked off "Receptions," on our sign-up form to ask them to bring food to a meeting, they will and they'll probably attend the meeting that way. I asked someone to cover boxes for "Questions/Suggestions/Comments" and for a used book sale, and she did. It's a good way to get to know people and get them involved.

I read the sign-up forms and call people personally when I need specific help even though I don't know them. That's how we found a new secretary, too.

Good luck!

I found that getting memberahips emails and keeping them informed worked best for us this year. A gentle reminder of a meeting the next day helps also. I personally invite teachers to atten, they never did before. This seems to be going well. We went from having 4 people at our PTA meeting s to 81 and 42 at the past two meetings. At these meetings I also personally thank all that helped out with and event that month and all of those that volunteered but were not picked. People like to hear their names read.

I hope this helps!

thats such a great idea to personally invite....all of our teachers are paid members but only two have attended and the funny thing is its the two i actually know well and talk to so maybe thats the key ...thank you a lot i apreciate it.

i am also a new president, and am trying to establish a procedure book for the officers, including committee chairs. Any ideas, or places to look?

Is your PTA part of a Council? Or do you have a field rep or something in your state office who supports you? These people should be able to help you and maybe even provide some training for your group.

I just posted a list in the thread on procedure books that may be helpful to you.
