Great ideas! We usually do a catered luncheon or potluck....these ideas inspire me and I will share some with our board! I'm also thinking on the spot here of combining a red carpet type atmosphere, where we can get some students to nab a few teachers during the week and ask for interviews, just asking one question such as, "What made you want to become a teacher?", then the students will write down responses (we can help as necessary). On luncheon day, (or maybe other days also) the school TVs can roll quotes from the teachers along with a picture if possible. ( Possibly some parts of this idea could have come from the NPTA or KYPTA conferences.....not sure...but I will suggest...)

Our school has a theme for each day with some kind of treat for the teachers/staff: Monday -breakfast, Tues - salads, Wed-lunch, Thurs-dessert,Fri-fresh fruit. Along with each day we have a themed gift basket to give away in a drawing. In order to encourage the students (this is for a HS), we have put together a movie gift basket, complete w/candy, DVDs, popcorn & a gift card to a local movie. Each time a student gives a teacher a "thank you" card their name will be entered t owin the movie basket. We are also putting a little something in the teacher's mailbox each day. Post-it notes w/ a sticker that says, "Your dedication is noteworthy". A pack of extra gum that says, "Thanks for your EXTRA hard work". A payday candy bar w/ a label that reads, "You deserve an extra PAYDAY".

The PTA gives a small gift on Monday and then we send home a letter to the parents on Monday asking the students/parents to participate in different activities throughout the week beginning on Tuesday. Tuesday is bring a flower (made, home grown or from store), Wednesday - wear your teachers favorite color, Thursday - write a thank you note and Friday - bring a dessert to put in the teachers lounge for all to enjoy. If the PTA caters a meal this is the day we usually do that as well. The teachers love it and it is cost effective for all :)

Our PTA has requested the help of our partners, parents and other organizations. We have secured five great gifts as raffle prizes (restaurants, groceries stores and a massage parlor). We will pull a teacher's name each day and they when the gift of the day. Our partners have all made a donation so that we can give the teachers a reception and we have massage therapists (a few of our parents) coming to give brief massages. We purchased little thank you cards from Dollar Tree and small gift sacks so that each teacher can get a treat in their mailbox one day. Also, we got the students involved where many of them are writing poems or letters to the teachers and some will be read over the intercome each day.

Seems like a lot of our schools provide special meals during Teacher Appreciation Week. (breakfasts, lunches, treats). We've heard from several working parents that they like to be included - dropping off banana muffins or a salad is one way they CAN contribute when volunteering in the class is impossible due to their schedules. To spread the involvement, these parents are on our school's go-to-list for celebration meals (not the predominantly class-helper parents).

On VolunteerSpot ( http://www.VolunteerSpot.com ), you can create an online list of what's needed (types of food, paper goods, etc.) and invite parents to sign up to bring stuff - this way you don't end up with all desserts and no main dish. Parents love the email reminder messages too.

Our principal has asked us to include all staff (about 50-60 people). We have a different food theme each day of the week, i.e. breakfast, snacks, desserts, appetizers, and a meal on the last day of Teacher Appreciation Week. In the past the meal has been catered (from a local restaurant.) This year due to our budget we will probably not have it catered.
As well the past couple years we have given each staff member a water bottle (from the dollar store or Wal Mart) with a Crystal Light single in it. Last year I even included a joke in each bottle.

Last year our teachers loved the massages. This year we have almost no budget... :-( We will be providing homemade lunches (chili, salads etc.) each day during teacher appreciation week. And along with letters from parents and students, we are also asking the teachers to write something for another special teacher... 'Props to My Peeps!' A different student/parent letter will be read over the loudspeaker 5 times each day. The teacher letters will be presented during their lunch in the staff lounge.

we have a male teacher who is a great advocate for helping get our ocean cleaner, not a freaky environmentalist, just a caring person who wants to make a difference so we will be giving him fruit for Monday instead of flowers and a thank you note from each student on how he has changed their lives for the better...me? I have stopped using one time use water bottles as our fish are now consuming them and the bottles' bits are now in our food chain

You could have a themed message board such as "Mrs. Green's Garden of Messages" of "Mr. Phillip's Feild of messages". The idea is to have the kids write positive messages on the cuts outs and place on the boards. Like for the garden, you could cut out different types of flowers and for the Field you could cut out baseballs, soccer balls, footballs, or basketballs. They turn out kind of cool. We do this at work for our co-workers birthdays and are thinking about putting it into place for our elementary teachers next year.
