Back to school time is here!  Our district held registration yesterday.  Is yours coming up?  Will you have a membership table at registration?  How do your membership numbers look to start the year?  Do you have a goal for the year?

Do any of your PTA units own a button making machine?  What did you pay for it and where did it come from?  Was it a good investment?  I am thinking about pricing them for our unit.

Getting ready for registration next week. Hoping we can maintain our numbers with an 80% new student population due to redistricting.

About me

I am a mother of 3 school-aged children. My son will be entering 6th grade at a new "intermediate academy" this year. (So this will be my first year to experience PTSA unit work.) My girls will be in 4th grade and 2nd grade. My husband and I have been married for 14 years (together for nearly 20 years total).

In the past I have been chair of the Teacher Appreciation Committee and Recording Secretary. This will be my third and final year as President of our elementary school PTA. I also started an award-winning PTA website for usabout 2 years ago which I still maintain. Our PTA has been an Indiana Central Region Honor Unit for 6 years in a row. Last year we had one member for every child.

I am also active in PTA on the Council and State levels.

Prior to the birth of our second child, I worked professionally as an AEA stage manager in a small professional theatre.

We did it!

Not only did we achieve our 50% growth goal.....we went beyond it! We got 424 members, which is matching membership for our September ADM count. It has been around 8 years since an Indiana PTA Unit achieved this goal. :-)

Getting closer

We haven't QUITE hit that 50% goal yet. We are at 347 members right now.....just 13 more members away from our 50% increase! We have already won a free registration to our State Convention since we are 100 members above last year's total.

334 members

We are now up to 334 members. This is a 39% increase over last year. Between a faculty contest to sponsor members and having all our fall carnival vendors become members, we are off to a teriffic year! Just 26 more members to get to a 50% increase! Surely we can do that before March!!!!!

We did it!

We hit a 25% increase before fall break! Our principal had sponsored a contest among the staff to get them to sponsor memberships. We got around 50 new memberships from this contest. Our PE teacher sponsored 16 of those memberships and won NFL tickets. This pushed us up to 305 members, which is around a 27% increase over last year.

+20%!

We are now 20% above last year's membership! Whoo hoo! Just 12 more members and we will hit a 25% increase at 300 members. A new membership appeal is going out in the school newsletter on Friday. Hopefully we will hit 300 next week prior to fall break. I wonder if we can get to 360, which is a 50% increase?! I know we should have at least another 20 members from Fall Carnival vendors that have not paid yet if we have the same number or vendors as last year. And I can think of at least 6 parents… Continue

The breakfast was fun! I wish more parents would have stayed for food. Maybe next year we can move the supplies away from the teachers to eliminate some of the congestion.

Hi Carissa! Where are you in Indiana? I did not make the last convention. I went in 2008 though. It was very informative. Hopefully now that I'm a board member I can help make some of the suggestions I heard work for us! Did you make the last convention?
