Have you continued to recruit new members throughout the year?  Are you still recruiting now?   Our State PTA's deadline to turn in our memberships for this year is right around the corner - 3/15.   We are still actively recruiting and we are trying…

Our school district's current situation isn't exactly unique.  We are facing budget cuts.  Our governor cut the state's education budget for the CURRENT year by $300 million dollars.  Our district is now trying to figure out how to cut $4 million fr…

Do you try to keep your membership campaign going year-round?   Do you do anything to invite families who move into your school later in the year to join?   We are tying to get a last little "burst" of members before the March 15th deadline for our…

What are you doing to engage more dads?    Are they active members in your PTA and visable in your school?  Or are they just joining in support of what the PTA does?   I believe that about 1/3 of our members are male.  (Which is great as I think the…

First off - I DO NOT want a sales pitch from you if you work for a fundraiser company.    I DO want feedback from other PTA leaders about what has and has not worked in their schools and which companies have provided them with the best service.   Wh…

About me

I am a mother of 3 school-aged children. My son will be entering 5th grade this year. My girls will be in 3rd grade and 1st grade. My husband and I have been married for 13 years (together for nearly 19 years total).

In the past I have been chair of the Teacher Appreciation Committee and Recording Secretary. This will be my second year as President of our elementary school PTA. I also started an award-winning PTA website for us last year which I still maintain. Our enrollment last year was around 470 students and our membership was about 50%. Our PTA has been an Indiana Central Region Honor Unit for 5 years in a row.

Prior to the birth of our second child, I worked professionally as an AEA stage manager in a small professional theatre.

Getting closer

We haven't QUITE hit that 50% goal yet. We are at 347 members right now.....just 13 more members away from our 50% increase! We have already won a free registration to our State Convention since we are 100 members above last year's total.

334 members

We are now up to 334 members. This is a 39% increase over last year. Between a faculty contest to sponsor members and having all our fall carnival vendors become members, we are off to a teriffic year! Just 26 more members to get to a 50% increase! Surely we can do that before March!!!!!

We did it!

We hit a 25% increase before fall break! Our principal had sponsored a contest among the staff to get them to sponsor memberships. We got around 50 new memberships from this contest. Our PE teacher sponsored 16 of those memberships and won NFL tickets. This pushed us up to 305 members, which is around a 27% increase over last year.

+20%!

We are now 20% above last year's membership! Whoo hoo! Just 12 more members and we will hit a 25% increase at 300 members. A new membership appeal is going out in the school newsletter on Friday. Hopefully we will hit 300 next week prior to fall break. I wonder if we can get to 360, which is a 50% increase?! I know we should have at least another 20 members from Fall Carnival vendors that have not paid yet if we have the same number or vendors as last year. And I can think of at least 6 parents… Continue

10% increase!

This week we hit 266 members!

This pushes us past the point of an increase of 25 or more members (one of our award categories) and past the point of a 10% increase. If we can hit 300 members that will be a 25% increase (another award category). I believe we have one more opportunity to have a membership table before fall break (the literacy event planned for this coming Thursday).

Fundraiser is off to a S-L-O-W start, which makes me really nervous.

We've done well with selling the "Twisted Pe… Continue

The breakfast was fun! I wish more parents would have stayed for food. Maybe next year we can move the supplies away from the teachers to eliminate some of the congestion.

Hi Carissa! Where are you in Indiana? I did not make the last convention. I went in 2008 though. It was very informative. Hopefully now that I'm a board member I can help make some of the suggestions I heard work for us! Did you make the last convention?
